I’ve always felt small when in the sea.
Paddling, swimming, floating. Insignificant in the vast stretch of ocean around me. The horizon of infinity, the mass of water, the crashing waves. I feel weak and helpless, the current stronger than I. The body of water enveloping my human body as I attempt to stay grounded, feet skimming the stones beneath me. Head just above sea level, I feel surrounded. Encircled. Safely enclosed yet simultaneously vulnerable. Carry me, water, I am at your mercy. I belong to you now.
